Thermal coated headers

What do you guys think about coating aftermarket headers such as the DC ceramic 4-2-1? I've been considering getting my header done by HPcoat before installing it.

Wow $181, that's pretty steep but I guess its well worth it. I'll try to find out the pricing for hp coat tomorrow.

For that price (almost as much as the headers), why not just wrap the headers for $50 and replace them when they wear out in a few years?

HPC is cheaper than jet hot. I know HPC can handle extreme heat. I had my down pipe coated by HPC.

Instead of wrapping the header (which will damage it premat.), why not use that header
thermo jacket or sleeves??? Has anyone use these?

However, I was considering that Kami's do not (according to what I've read - no first hand experience) have a very long life expectancy anyway. If that's true, the harmfull effects of the wrap may not matter.

i.e. If the welds are likely to crack in two years, it may be scrap metal before the wraps have a chance to ruin it.

In this case, buying a new header and wrap every two years IS less expensive than buying new headers and coating them every two years.

Please, no flames here. I have no idea if the Kami's deserve their bad reputation for longevity. Hell, for $200 I don't care if it does disintegrate every two years! I'd still get them.

Will the ceramic coating help longevity? Who knows... I won't take your bet though. I agree with you on the performance benefit, however slight it is.

As for the warranty, I recall a "Kami Warranty Hell" thread a while back. Based on that, I wouldn't put much value in their warranty.

Inboost: how much did HPC charge you to coat the downpipe?

BTW people, I got a great deal on the ceramic DC 4-2-1 headers for $275 out the door.

Instead of going with HPC or Jet-Hot I would suggest going with Swain Tec coatings. It does not look as good as the others, but is much thicker, and I think it will do a better job.

#1- Kami has one year warranty and will not replace them for premature damage(moisture build-up) caused by wrapping.

#2- Cost effectiveness(group buy price)
A. Kami Polished w/ Jet Hot Thermal coating = $385
B. Kami Ceramic w/ wrapped and replaced = $535(add another $50 for wrapping 2nd one)
NOTE: I'll bet money my header out performs and out last a wrapped header. It has already been proven in the racing community.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't get paid to do this. I have to do whatever it takes to get make my parts last. I have no problems spending an extra $100-200 now for optimal performance and peace of mind
